NUSADAILY.COM-NETHERLANDS – Laurent Simmons is a really special kid. At the age of 9 years, he is preparing his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He is the son of a married couple from Belgium and the Netherlands named Alexander and Lydia.
Laurent is now studying electrical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands. The courses taken by Laurent are not easy courses even for mature students.
In Popmama.com stated that Laurent was able to complete his studies within 10 months. Though usually a normal student takes it in eight semesters or four years.
Reporting from Al Arabiya, Tuesday, November 19, 2019, a staff member from where Laurent studied learned that Laurent was an “abnormal” kid. Considering that in December 2019 the boy will get his bachelor’s degree.
“The Belgian child is planning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering while studying medicine,” the staff told CNN.
Laurent’s parents say that Laurent had extraordinary abilities from an early age. “During pregnancy, I often eat fish, maybe that’s why,” joked Lydia, Laurent’s mother.
Laurent’s father, Alexander, said that his grandparents often said that Laurent was a very talented boy. However, he and his wife did not pay much attention to it.

Alexander said that his son felt “difficulties” when he played with his peers.
“He has difficulty playing with other children, he is not interested in games played by children his age.” he explained.
Soerd Holchoff, Director of Education, awarding a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, said that was extraordinary. “This is amazing,” he said.
“He is our fastest student. Laurent is not only smart but also very friendly,” Holchoff added, quoted by CNN.
Because Laurent is able to learn faster than anyone else, his parents let Laurent to enjoy it.
“We need to find a balance between his talent and being himself as a child,” his father said.
